A Dublin busker and hoover-repair guy plays and sings his own songs he had composed after he broke up with his girls friend. Just when he is to give up on the dream that his talent will get recognition, a Czech immigrant young lady is fascinated by his music. Their unusual friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated love story during which she helps him believe in his music again. She also helps him find money to record a demo album with a motley crew of bar friends.
ONCE has something of the feel of a pub concert, and every effort is made to give the audience an intimate evening with the characters. The actors are also the show’s musicians. Before the show they play Irish standards in the Dublin pub set, and audience members are invited to join them for a drink from the onstage bar. Since Once is about musicians, the show feels like a play with music, because the songs are a natural part of the story-line and there is no spontaneous bursting into song.Get tickets here
